Elodie Bouny - guitar

She was born in Caracas (Venezuela) and grew up in Paris, where she studied classical guitar at the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt (Paris). She obtains his final diploma in 2000, with the highest mention unanimously.

She then improved with Pablo Márquez at the Strasbourg Conservatory, where she found the opportunity to broaden her knowledge and open his field of work, especially to early music and improvised music. She finishes this second course in 2005, when she graduates, obtaining her D.E.M. (Diploma of Musical Studies). During these years of studies, she complemented her training by following numerous master classes with eminent personalities and participated in classes related to South American music, integrating for a few months the courses of the National Conservatory of Folklore of Buenos Aires, directed by the guitarist Juan Falú . During this period, she is the winner and finalist of several international guitar competitions.

As a composer, she receives commissions for solo guitar, ensembles, orchestra and opera. (Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, UFRJ, Guitar Foundation of America, Siqueira-Lima duo, among others). Some of her works are published by the Canadian publishing house Editions d’Oz and the French Editions Soldano.

Master in Music Education from the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2012), and PhD in Creative Processes from the same institution (2019). In 2013, her master’s thesis was published in Novas Edições Acadêmicas with the title: Classical guitarist and popularly trained guitarist: Investigating differences in musical training.

Élodie has performed since the early 2000s at several festivals in Brazil and around the world, in solo and chamber music recitals and teaching courses and MasterClasses.

Her orchestrations (most are orchestrations of plays by Yamandu Costa) and compositions are played in prestigious halls (Salle Pleyel, in Paris; Teatro São Pedro, in Porto Alegre; Teatro Cine Odeon, in Cuiabá; Gewanhaus in Leipzig; La Philharmonie in Paris, Municipal Theater in São Paulo, Sala Cecilia Meireles) with conductors such as Antônio Borges-Cunha, Leandro Carvalho, Kristjan Jarvi and Alondra de La Parra and Roberto Minczuk.

Her first CD, Terra Adentro, dedicated to the Latin American repertoire, came out in 2011 by the Rio de Janeiro label A Casa Produções and has artistic production by Yamadu Costa.

She is currently developing several projects: Iroko Trio (with Marcelo Caldi and Carla Rincon), Duo Andrea Ernest-Dias and Elodie Bouny, and occasionally plays with Yamandu Costa as a duo, in addition to her work as a soloist. She was a member of the Camerata de Violões from 2012 to 2016.
She is the director of the guitar composition contest “Concurso Novas” which is in its fourth edition in 2020.

Recently, the Municipal Theater Orchestra of São Paulo commissioned her a piece for soprano and orchestra (Meia Lágrima) which was premiered in May 2019 by singer Marly Montano under the direction of Roberto Minczuk.
Her piece for guitar quartet Déja Vu was selected for the XXIII Biennial of Contemporary Brazilian Music and had its Brazilian premiere in November 2019 at Sala Cecilia Meireles.

She was a substitute guitar teacher at the Institute of Arts and Design at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora in 2019.

In 2022, her opera Men of Paper will be premiered, which was commissioned by the Municipal Theater of São Paulo.
